Import fees & where your item is made
Everything we sell is made to order, one piece at a time. Most items are produced at our production partner's facility inside the EU. A smaller number — mainly kids' sizes, socks, and the largest adult sizes — are only made at their facility in the USA, because the blanks simply aren't stocked in Europe.
When an item ships from the USA to an address in the EU, it crosses a customs border. That means import VAT, and occasionally a customs duty, can be charged when the parcel arrives — even though you're buying from a German shop and having it delivered inside the EU. These charges are set and collected by your country's customs authority, not by us, and they're payable by the person receiving the parcel.
We'd genuinely rather you hear this from us now than from a courier at your door.
How to tell before you order
On the product page you'll see a short note whenever the option you've picked is one that ships from our USA facility. No note means it's coming from the EU and no import charges apply.
As a rule of thumb:
- Kids' and youth sizes — almost always made in the USA
- Socks — always made in the USA
- 3XL and larger adult sizes — usually made in the USA
- Everything else — nearly always made in the EU
Can I get it made in the EU instead?
Sometimes, yes — and we're happy to look. For several adult styles the same garment is available from both facilities, and if there's an EU option for what you want, we'll ask for it to be produced there. Just message us before you order, or leave a note with your order, and we'll do our best.
We'd rather be straight with you though: for kids' sizes and socks there is currently no EU alternative at all. If you order those, they will come from the USA. We won't pretend otherwise and then quietly ship it anyway.
Ordering from the United Kingdom?
Good news: most UK orders are made and posted inside the UK by our production partner's British facility, so they never cross a customs border and no import charges apply at all.
The exceptions are the same as above — kids' sizes and socks, which are only made in the USA. Those do enter the UK from abroad, so import VAT and a courier handling fee can apply on delivery. You'll see a note on the product page when you pick one of those options.
As with everywhere else: if you're unsure before ordering, message us with the product and size and we'll tell you exactly where that item will be made.
Worried about a charge? Just ask.
If you're unsure about anything — whether an item is affected, roughly what a charge might come to, or whether there's a way around it — please just get in touch before you buy. Tell us the product and the size or colour you're looking at and we'll check that exact item and come back to you, usually the same day.
And if a charge ever does turn up unexpectedly, contact us with your order number and the notice you received. We look at every one of these ourselves. We'd much rather sort it out with you than leave you out of pocket and wondering what happened.
